The researchers then performed single-cell RNA sequencing in collaboration with Prof. Jong Kyoung Kim (Department of Life Sciences at POSTECH). The analysis showed that cottoncetin prevented the expression of genes involved in gliosis, which promotes a chronic inflammatory response, while increasing the expression of genes involved in Aβ phagocytosis. In other words, cottoncetin promoted Aβ clearance by microglia.
